Manila March 25 Major Waller and Lieutenant Day were tried on charges of executing natives on Samar without trial after a Gen Chaffee order. Waller pleaded not guilty to murder but admitted eleven men were killed. Testimony described prisoners shot after being marched and fed poorly with some tied to trees.
In Des Moines on March 25 the house tuliny approved a joint resolution urging Congress to call a national convention to amend the constitution for the election of United States senators by popular vote.

Edward B K Healey of Milford Nebraska and Mrs Elizabeth A Peebles of Sioux Falls wed in Sioux Falls. Their romance began in a Wisconsin town during school days, separated by war and moves, then renewed in St Paul. Health and Peebles share a patched courtship tied to wartime distance and reunion.
Milwaukee reports 11 year old John Brown son of superintendent at Bradley Metcalf company found dead in his room at Gio Thirteenth Street. He was preparing for a physical examination for Antapotis when an improvised easthynusium device with rope and broom handle caused his head to become ensnared and strangled. He had recently joined the Turners to aid in physical culture.
Reports from Havana show W. F. Neely W. H. Reeves and G. Rathbone each received ten years in prison and heavy fines for Cuban postal funds embezzlement. The sentences include Neely paying 56701 dollars Reeves 35500 and Rathbone 35500.
A White House meeting between the president and seven Republican House members explored Cuba reciprocity. Discussions covered the Payne bill, sugar differential, and possible amendments to secure unified Republican action, with no final conclusions reported. A northbound Southern railroad passenger train 88 derailed near Covesville after a landslide. Pullman porter Nicholas Town and an unknown tramp were killed. fireman John Turner died of injuries. Several others were injured. mail losses were reported as the greatest in Southern railway history. Turner sought medical care after the wreck at the University of Virginia hospital. rest were sent to Washington.
