A New York cable reports widespread mob violence in Urumiah Persia, with many killed and refugees pouring into American and French missions. Turkish forces attacked, priests and deacons ordered to leave, and European and native workers feared. The American mission sheltered all who could be housed as mobs terrorized the city.
Indianapolis March 23 At the Terre Haute election cases trial former Assistant Chief Nugent pleaded guilty and described a conspiracy to corrupt the November election. He testified Mayor Roberts ordered detention cells built shortly before the vote saying we will have a rush shout then. Nugent said the cells were filled the night before with election officials and workers opposed to the Roberts machine.
Chicago reports Jeas Will Marne a Black man attacked beat and robbed 71 year old Mrs Prances E Schwartz in her son's Wheaton home. Judge Mazzini Slusser Du Page county imposed 24 year sentence after guilty plea. Mrs Schwartz medical care by Dr George W Schwartz and Dr J H Raach. Scene described in court as she aided by son and physician. In Champaign James Fisher, colored, shot by Jackson Bailey during a craps dispute. Fisher died, Bailey escaped but was later recaptured.
A London dispatch notes the bombardment of Turkish positions at Kilid Bahr and Kale Sultan. Despite accurate fire from warships, Turkish losses were minor with one casualty at Fort Dardanelles and slight damage to Fort Hamidieh.
In Aurora Newfoundland Hal Burke was released after Mrs Katherine Franc identified a man seen buying yarn gloves similar to those tied to Emma Petersons murder. Police Chief Michels says Clarke had no involvement. In Washington President Wilson visited Senator Shively, a rare gesture.

In Peoria on March 22 police report Annie Marie Knight of Monmouth confessed that her husband John Knight and Lovey Mitchell planned and carried out the murder of William E. Dawson his wife and daughter at Monmouth on Sept 20 1911. Knight and Mitchell allegedly killed the family after plotting revenge. Knight said she waited in the yard while the men killed them. Police declined further comment.

Saginaw Mich March 23 That the bones found in a candy factory furnace January 4 the day after the disappearance of Rose Laundry years old were those of a girl of her age was announced by Professor Rolla E McCotter of the University of Michigan in testifying at the trial of Charles Kimbrough a negro employe of the factory who is charged with having waylaid and murdered the girl Dr McCotter told of his comparative tests the body of a 12 year old girl taken from the universitys medical department was placed in a furnace a fire was made and the body placed in the firebox Within an hour he testified the bones that were left were the same as the specimens sent from Saginaw as those of the missing child.
Terre Haute police say Verne Alphonse Lewis confessed to killing Mrs. Mary Balding and three of her children and attempting to kill two others on March 14, fearing their move away. He crushed skulls with flatirons as they slept. Two survivors, with fractured skulls, are expected to die. Grand jury indicts Lewis for first degree murder. he is 33.
