CAPTURE OF BLOEMFONTEIN MARKS TURNING POINT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Mystery surrounds Chicago shooting of Bertha Richter

In Chicago at 207 Halsted street, Mrs Bertha Richter was shot in the right breast by a doctor who claims accidental discharge. Richter, who disclosed her identity as Mrs Hertha Richter, is separated from her husband pending divorce. The doctor was arrested and questioned as investigators seek the circumstances of the shooting.

Senate Deliberates on Porto Rico Revenue Bill and Duties

In Washington on March 15 the Senate finished morning business after Sullivan of Mississippi prepared to speak on the Philippines. Jones of Arkansas offered a substitute to return all duties collected on imports from Porto Rico to the payers and suspend duties on all future imports from the island. The move sparked a lengthy debate with many senators, while a civil government bill for the island was set aside for later. Elkins favored delay.
