A wireless report says Evans fleet arrived off Magdalena Bay ahead of schedule and is in good condition ready to sail at a moment's notice. The fleet is reported to be safely in the harbor area as Roosevelt referred to it.
Mary Fay Hawes of Rock Island leads as Supreme Oracle after a lively state meeting of the Royal Neighbors of America in Peoria. Mrs Winnie Fielder of Peoria is reappointed Supreme Recorder as Miss Mayde E Dade's bid sparked a door fracas over divorce allegations against Fielder, with police restoring order.
Pontiac Alabama March 12 The animosity between the state reformatory board of managers and the legislative investigating committee in session here peaked with reports the board was summoned to answer graft charges. The committee said members allegedly received money from inmates’ friends for paroles, with prisoners released after only a few months. It is charged the board, though only salaries are allowed, collected hotel bills as vouchers while attending sessions.
Watseka Illinois March 12 The Republican county committee of Troquis appointed delegates to the state and congressional conventions. Delegates to the congressional convention were instructed for Joseph G Cannon for the presidential nomination. Resolutions endorsed President Roosevelt and the state administration without naming Governor Dexeen.
Rock Island council of the Royal Arcanum will initiate a class of 25 candidates, organized by East St. Louis Deputy McMullen. Delegates come from Davenport and Moline, with Bernard McHugh of Chicago guest of honor and to give an address after a banquet following the initiation.
Members of Kaaba temple in Rock Island and Davenport will travel by Pullman sleeper over the Burlington road to Ottumwa Iowa on the evening of March 26 to confer the order on a class of candidates. The party will return the next morning March 27 and will hold ceremonies and a traditional banquet on March 26.

Names of dead men appear on New Orleans voting lists as affidavits allege hundreds of frauds in Louisiana lieutenant governor primary. Both candidates filed formal charges with the Democratic State Central Committee detailing dead voters and others who cast no votes appearing on returns.
Rock Island Plow Company released a 200 page circular detailing its expanded range of farming implements. The catalog highlights soil stirring tools, cultvating devices, stalk cutters, hay loaders, farm wagons and corn planters, all advertised as improved by latest methods. Mrs Metcalf Adjudged Insane in Indianapolis March 12. Beatrice Thomas Metcalf, who attacked an attorney in Chicago, was ruled insane by a lunacy commission and ordered confined to an insane hospital nearby.
A San Francisco dispatch claimed 2,500 killed in a February clash between Chilean government forces and nitrate bed strikers at Iquique. Subsequent from Valparaiso cites 260 killed and about 50 wounded in the same December incident, suggesting the San Francisco figure and date were exaggerated or misdated.

Columbus March 12 The Senate by 22 to 9 passed a bill abolishing capital punishment. It provides that all persons convicted of murder in the first degree shall be sentenced to life imprisonment with no restrictions. A similar measure failed in the house two years ago.

Washington March 12 The special subcommittee investigating charges by Representative Lilly opened hearings Lilly said he had accused Electric Boat and Holland companies of trying to influence legislation He urged calling Electric Boat officers and presenting documentary evidence to reveal funding and methods Lilly named Franklin Taylor John T Kellogg and Ferris as aides who urged votes for submarine appropriations Hobson testified that Electric Boat nudged him about joining the naval affairs committee if he backed submarine legislation.
Rev. W. H. Blancke, president of Davenport Civic federation, announced the organization will recede from enforcing the mulet law provision that tables and chairs be removed from saloons. The new order, once expected to take effect next Saturday, is delayed.

Panama transportation bill postponed. In the House persistent assaults on the appropriation bill led to amendments funding clerks and contract stations. a provision restricting certain liquors and derivatives was added. New York March 12 The steamer Muretania established a new trans Atlantic record by beating its own best time by 2 hours 36 minutes. Carmi Illinois March 12 J C Hoskins 80 and Mrs Rachel May 52 eloped from Fairfield yesterday and were married in this city. Hoskins said it was his seventh wife and Mrs Hoskins admitted she had her third husband. The children opposed the marriage and the couple had the county judge marry them.
