Fire Roars as Guests Flee Seven Story Club Building

In St Louis a Missouri Athletic Club blaze killed at least six with 26 more unaccounted and 29 injured. The building housed 75 guests. security losses include a bank vault with about 1 million in currency. Fire began about 2 am on the third floor amid a gym and registered guests evacuated by staff.

Fire devastates club in downtown blaze

A major fire at a downtown club caused extensive damage estimated at 1 million dollars. Firefighters battled walls and ceilings as guests, including executives Walter Fritsch and Mor Decai Brown, escaped by ropes and bedsheet lanyards from upper floors. Dozens injured, many transported to hospitals, police cleared crowds to let responders work.

Kelley Army Clash Ends in Riot at Frisco

In Sacramento on March 9 three militia companies guarded General Kelley and 1700 unemployed after a clash with 600 Industrial Workers of the World along the Southern Pacific right of way. A citizen fund was raised to charter a train back to San Francisco. A score of men were injured in confrontations that led to Kelley and 18 aides being arrested on vagrancy charges and officials appealed for troops from the governor.

J T Henderson manager of Grand theatre sues Mischa Elman for 1200 dollars after the violinist refused to perform citing a small audience. The suit claims mental anguish and monetary loss beyond the contract value and notes Aurora patrons sympathize with the manager.

Businessmen plan to visit three Rock Island plants

Members of the Rock Island Business Men's association will tour three city industries Tuesday afternoon starting 1 20 from the Safety building. The Standard Table Oil Cloth Blake Specialty and Rock Island Bridge Iron Works are on the schedule with the oil cloth works to be visited before 2 o'clock. In Albany Frederick Townsend Martin Dies is reported dead in London.

Simple funeral for Vanderbilt held in Washington

Washington March 9 simple and brief funeral services for George W Vanderbilt were held with only friends and relatives present. The body will be transported to New Dorp Staten Island for burial at the Vanderbilt home.

Rioting Attends Italians Strike In Rome

In Rome a 100000 strong workers meeting initiated a strike to demand hospital reorganizations for the working class. Police and soldiers swarmed the city as crowds hissed visitors to the Vatican and rioting erupted later with injuries as cavalry charged.

Militant suffragettes clash with police in Trafalgar Square

In London on March 9 suffragettes battled officers in Trafalgar Square amid rain after Sylvia Pankhurst was arrested for the sixth time under the cat and mouse law. Seven women and three men were taken into custody, including Zeke Emerson of Jackson Michigan.

Bodies recovered by Texans after Mexican border incident

Texas rangers did not cross the border but assisted in handling the body of Vergara found after a secret exhumation.
