A fire in downtown Aiken South Carolina yesterday destroyed nine buildings in the city center. The blaze started in the afternoon and Agle was blowing as firefighters battled the flames amid strong winds and smoke.
A fire at Sunnyside sanatorium destroyed several buildings during a large Major Mallory reception. Witnesses included Taddy Constan Mackenzie. Injured names were not released, but no serious injuries reported and financial loss described as not large.
In Chicago on March 6 George Murray pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in the Lynch jury bribing case. He was indicted with Alexander Sullivan and others for keeping ex bailiff James L. Lynch, and received a $500 fine plus costs.

Washington March 6 The Commission today handed down a decision against claimants for deaths and injuries of officers and seamen in the wreck of the battleship Maine in Havana harbor. The commission says claimants must look to their own government for remuneration. Claims aggregate 2 500 000 dollars. The affected claims amount to about 2 500 000 dollars.
Frank W. Cottle, cashier of Elkhart State Bank, shot himself after reports of a cash shortage. The act occurred while stockholders’ committee prepared to reopen the bank in Springfield. He used a frontier pattern pistol once owned by his son, Jordan, linked to the Buffalo Bill show in 1900.
