Washington March 2 The official burial at sea of the battleship Maine, planned for Monday, has been postponed to March 15 due to difficulty removing the cofferdam around the wreck. The hulk is to be towed from Havana harbor and sunk with full naval honors, escorted by cruisers North Carolina and Birmingham.

Montreal March 2 One of five robbers who broke into a bank at Montreal West five miles west of the city was killed in a running fight with citizens. The other four escaped. The robbers failed to obtain any loot. The four burglars who got away probably owed their escape to snow shoes, hindering pursuers.

Mutineers shell the palace of Duke Kuei Hsiang and loot and burn vast areas, with many reported headless bodies in streets. Pasadena police search for a masked man who entered Mrs. Jack Cudahy’s home and chased her to a neighbor’s house. She escaped through the front door into the yard while a companion helped. A man jumped a back fence as witnesses aided. An overcoat with maker and owner names cut from it was found behind the residence.
Washington reports say a cabinet conference urged the president to issue a proclamation calling for strict neutrality by U S citizens regarding Mexico. Senator Lodge warned the Mexican situation is dire and a note will instruct the U S ambassador in Mexico City to tell Americans to leave if danger grows. Madrid state: Mexico orders 10,000 carbines from a rifle factory.
Los Angeles March 2 Bert Hi Franklin former McNamara defense detective pleaded guilty to attempting to influence a juror in the McNamara trial and was fined 4000. Judge H Cabiniss called Franklin's conduct damnable. the sum held by the district attorney and alleged to have been taken at his arrest. In Knoxville March 2 the International Printing Pressmen and Assistants union elected officers with George L Barry reelected president and Joseph Orr secretary.
