A royal proclamation announcing the coronation of the king was read this morning at St James Palace the Temple Bar and the Royal Exchange with medieval pageantry marking the accession crowds gathered from all directions to hear the announcement the ceremony was less crowded than before but drew many onlookers
A Munich newspaper article summarized by Dr. Alexander von Peez argues the U S leads in industrial growth once the Philippines war ends. It calls for tariffs and trade treaties to defend Europe and Asia, and says the United States will face limits only if Europe resists conquest.
Thomas J. Rezers shot himself at 6 p.m. as guests gathered for his wedding to Miss Emnes C. Plank in Clarinda. The ball entered above the ear and he died about an hour later. A minister was ready to perform the ceremony, and the event unfolded with about twenty guests present.

The Dubuque Vesteon & Southwestern railroad was incorporated today in Dubuque with a capital of 100000 dollars. Directors elected are all residents of Dubuque. The item also contains unrelated dialogue excerpts about moving and a landlord’s plans, plus a Robbins-Funny quip on domestic harmony from an 19th century newspaper page.
In Philadelphia 5000 citizens gathered at the Academy of Music to back P F E Rothermel Jr. for district attorney against John Weaver. Col A B McClure denounced the Republican machine, accusing them of corruption and civil robbery. A telegram from Postmaster General Smith was read praising public rights.
In Quincy Iowa Louise Strothoff 19 and Frank Forrest 21 were found dead near a bridge with a revolver in Forrests hand. A letter in Strothoffs room suggested premeditation and consent to die together after parental opposition to their marriage. The couple had planned suicide following a carer of love and conflict.
Yale defeats Harvard by less than a length in a dramatic four mile Yale versus Harvard race on the Thames at New London Connecticut. The finish featured Yale pulling ahead in the final 100 yards after a tight contest with Harvard leading earlier and the official time recorded with Yale ahead. Freshmen races preceded the main event with Yale winning the two mile and Harvard taking the four oared race by six lengths.
Resolutions introduced at the Allied Printing Crafts Union convention in Elgin were referred to committees. Amendments to the constitution were offered, with election of officers due tomorrow. Aurora contributions bring the Chicago situation into the discussion and proposals favor direct state representation and support for smaller unions.
Jessie Morrison was found guilty of manslaughter in the second degree for the murder of Mrs. Olin Castle. The penalty ranges from three to five years. An appeal was filed. Morrison was taken to a cell as her father left. Jury deliberations lasted nearly thirty hours amid local events and notes of other incidents in Eldorado and nearby cities.
In Chicago June 28 John W Springer of Denver said the National Live Stock association will test the constitutionality of Colorado's state inspection law which claims authority over federal cattle inspections. Ed H Reid of Omaha faces arrest in Denver for bringing 27 cars of cattle into Colorado without the state fee. If denied bail, an appeal to the Supreme Court is planned to settle whether federal inspection supersedes state inspection. The movement has broad backing from major livestock groups nationwide.
In Saginaw Michigan on June 28 a home for the friendless inmate Frances Elliott aged two died after becoming entangled in a rope while using a ceiling jumping chair. A nurse briefly left the room, and the child was lifted and strangled by the rope end.
Kansas Governor Stanley rejects a New York alderman's plan to send 5,000 unemployed workers to harvest Kansas wheat. He says Kansas no longer needs outside labor and discourages influx of moneyless workers. Kansas City official E. B. Samuel Gompers president of the American Federation of Labor is seriously injured at his Washington home from a concussion of the brain and possible skull fracture after alighting from a street car while returning from an outing with two children. New York on June 28 reported Henry Marquand and Company failed and assigned without preference to Frank Sullivan Smith. No assets or liabilities were disclosed.
