In Wilkes Barre on June 27, three local youths Adams Brozanski 21 Theodore Broganski 17 and Bolsh Krakowscki 19 drowned when their rowboat carried over the Susquehanna River dam into the whirlpool below.
Oyster Bay June 27 Four months of bed rest were prescribed for Colonel Roosevelt after doctors diagnosed spleen enlargement and malarial fatigue from South American jungles. He plans to campaign in a limited form, will speak once in Pittsburgh Tuesday night, and abandons a cross country trip. He will see throat specialist Dr Curtis in New York on returning.
In Butte Montana rehabilitation of the Western Federation local is left to miners by President Moyer. A new independent union with 600 members joined, totaling about 4000. Some opponents say federal troops should not be sent, others warn of mob leaders in the copper city.
John Fichtel, a farmer near Aurora, was instantly killed by a lightning strike as he stood in a barn door during a storm. His wife Elizabeth, beside him, did not feel the shock and only heard the crack, witnessing the mangled, charred clothing and burned body.

In Washington on June 27 Senator Borah led a Republican critique of the proposed federal trade commission bill. He warned it would create uncertainty by defining unfair competition and urged explicit rules. Senators Newlands and Lewis warned definitions could miss or mislabel unfair practices.
Militant suffragists circumvented police and bombarded King George and Queen Mary with leaflets at Hyde Park entrance. A bundle of papers knocked the king's hat aside while the queen's parasol was struck. Women were seized by police and carried away struggling.
Reports sought by federal and Cook County attorneys have disappeared from the state auditor's office. A missing Bank Examiner Rife report indicated the bank's shaky condition. Rife had sent the report to L. L. Bacchus, who later became LaSalle Street Bank vice president.

Merced California June 27 A Yosemite Valley train left rails and rolled into the river causing one death and nine injuries. S. J. Harris was crushed between cars and Conductor Mahoney is missing. Injured include Mrs Emma Wassergond Chicago Mrs R C O'Donnell Ogden and Mrs Margaret Ottens Chicago with various injuries. In New Jersey William A Death paroled for murder of Jennie Bosschieter.
National Woman Suffrage association delegates from 38 states petition Congress urging equal rights for women. Speaker Clark welcomes them and backs state action, noting he will vote for suffrage if raised in Missouri. Petitions seek action by July 8 and press for nonpartisan federal legislation.

Batavia June 27 a British steamer named Kintuch overdue yesterday was found driven ashore in the straits of Sunday near Java Sumatra by heavy seas. The vessel is crowded with native seigranty passengers and crew with uncertain conditions reported aboard.
