Springfield June 23 The state executive board of the United Mine Workers of America proposed arbitration with the Illinois Coal Operators Association to settle whether miners violated their agreement by seeking a shot firer law, a claim raised by operators.

Laporte Indiana June 23 The west bound Twentieth Century limited narrowly escaped a disaster matching the Mentor Ohio wreck last evening A switch from the main line was found open switchman F H Kirkwood ran to the lever and closed it The limited passed at about 50 miles an hour in safety due to his actions
Hartford firms face about 175000 in losses from the Twentieth Century Limited wreck near Mentor Ohio. Travelers Insurance carried 9000 on persons killed plus 33000 life policy, Aetna Life held 20000 accident on C E Wellman killed, others carried about 10000 in total.
Lilian Moore of Poughkeepsie dies from a fractured skull after two excursionist trolley cars collide at Fishkill Landing. Twenty others are injured but not believed fatally. Also reported: Allied Printers elect in Peoria choose Peoria as next convention site with officers re-elected, including W. W. Clarke of Chicago president and Walter S. Bush of Peoria vice president.
London June 23 Premier Balfour announced in the house of commons that the government would immediately introduce a bill creating a commission to inquire into the army bay and set June 26 for debate on the vote of censure proposed by Sir Robert Threshie Reed.
Advance guard of the First regiment of Chicago under Capt Gunther has reached Camp Lincoln Springfield Illinois. The camp will be ready to receive the regiment at 6 o'clock tomorrow marking the opening of the annual encampment.
Roswell New Mexico, June 23. Benjamin H. Tallmadge of Chicago and the Tallmadge Southwestern Land Company faces subornation of perjury charges in a case likened to Oregon and Montana land fraud prosecutions. He was released on five thousand dollars bond.
