In Montreal on June 13 a disastrous blaze leveled the Herald building trapping fifty bindery workers and linotype operators beneath wreckage. A water tank ruptured, gas ignited, and flames surged through all floors as rescuers struggled to reach the trapped, twenty dead and thirty injured.
Roosevelt attends a Catholic service for 1,200 Russian and Galician Polish emigrants in steerage aboard the Kaiser, greeting them to America and urging civic duties and rights of women. Washington June 13 A joint resolution originating in the house authorizing Illinois Indiana and Michigan to agree on jurisdiction over crimes committed on Lake Michigan was today adopted by the senate.
