Tri City Press Club Event Honors Secretary Taft

A Davenport gathering of the Tri City Press Club featured General Crozier and Colonel Blunt as high honors guests. The evening included a ceremony, military salutes, and toasts praising unity, patriotism, and the press, with Rabbinic blessing and remarks by toastmaster Mr. Tillinghast and President Sundine.

Taft at School in Iowa City With 3000 Visitors

Secretary Taft was enthusiastically greeted by about 3000 out of town visitors and the entire faculty student body of Iowa State College. He joined the college procession, delivered an address, spoke at the Alumni dinner, and addressed citizens in the open air. An evening bar dinner was planned.

Illinois passengers fight new rail fare act in Chicago session

Illinois railroad representatives in Chicago push to withdraw special rates for convention delegates and merchants. The Try Press Club program featured remarks lauding Theodore Roosevelt for seeking to curb private power abuses during a time of prosperity. Speakers argued strong regulation can prevent misuse by the few and praised Roosevelt for guiding future policy while acknowledging ongoing challenges. Harry Orchard Watched 12 Nights to Shoot Officer

Boise June 12 With the Haywood trial resuming the cross examination of Harry Orchard continued into its fifth day. The session revisited the reward plan against Governor Peabody at Canon City and the dynamiting cases to test Orchard’s credibility. A sharp wrangle with Attorney Richardson occurred over coaching claims while Orchard denied being instructed and claimed to tell the truth. Orchard recounted waiting twelve nights to kill General Sherman Bell in Denver, aided by a dog’s bark at his target.

Ruef testifies to payments to Schmitz in Fillmore street house

In San Francisco on June 12 Abraham Ruef answered affirmatively to questions about giving Eugene E Schmitz $2,500 in January 1905 at 2849 Fillmore Street. Ruef said he told the mayor the sum was Schmitz's share of $5.04 received from French restaurants.

Car H it s Auto Tracks Fatal Wreck in Indianapolis

Two women were killed a man fatally injured and two other women seriously hurt when a street car struck an automobile carrying a party near Thirty eighth street and College avenue Indianapolis. Driver J F Himes said he slowed to let a northbound car pass then entered the crossing on the double track and the southbound street car struck the auto. Mrs Love died instantly and Mrs Gordon died after hospital admission.

Roosevelt party leaves Washington for Oyster Bay by private car

President Roosevelt and Mrs Roosevelt with Mrs Cowles and others depart Washington in the private Magnet car attached to a Pennsylvania train for Oyster Bay to spend the summer. In Ottumwa Iowa Earl Brown, 13, was declared insane after being struck on the head with a baseball bat during an amateur game.
