River continues to rise steadily and will probably be out of its banks in 24 hours. Hundreds of families at Armourdale and Argentine moved to higher places today. Merchants along the West Bottoms at Kansas City are preparing for emergencies by moving their stock to safe quarters.

Chicago June 8 The Republican National Committee adjourned amid a dangerous partition collapse as Taft aligned delegates won Florida Georgia and Kentucky contests with some allied groups bolstering their position despite Hitchcock’s withdrawal. Memorial services followed for Woodmen and Royal Neighbors with multiple camps and a Reynolds unit conducting exercises in poor weather.

The Rock Island local freight No. 88 struck and fatally injured Glenn Buf fum of this city and William Howell of Clinton west of Davenport Wednesday evening. Engineer Frank Visps said he saw nothing until a body flew through the air and stopped the train. Fireman's testimony mirrored this. An adjournment was taken to obtain the Milwaukee freight crew testimony regarding the two youths who were said to have ridden to Nahant.

Dervish Wins the Race in Bermuda Ocean Cup

The schooner Dervish, owned by Commodore Henry Morse of the Corinthian Yacht Club, won the Marblehead to Hamilton ocean race in class B. It finished at 12:40 this morning with no daylight challenger in its class.

Destructive Midwest Tornadoes Cut Wide Path Across States

A June tornado outbreak across southern Nebraska northern Kansas and neighboring states left seventeen dead five fatally injured and many more hurt. Local officers to judge at Peoria forester drill

Colonel F. E. B. Hobbs of Rock Island arsenal and Captain J. E. Normoyle, a Rock Island native at Fort Leavenworth, join regular army officers as judges for the Modern Woodmen forester drill at Peoria head camp next week. Drills run Monday to Wednesday with $6,490 in prizes, the highest head camp award to date. Illinois caucus, the 39 state caucuses, will meet at the Creve Coeur club Monday evening with W. A. Northcott presiding.

Milwaukee hosts the United States Brewers association gathering starting tomorrow with a public meeting. Brewers seek to present their side against prohibition and expose all arguments to the public. Moline Tag Day Nets $700 for Bethany Home

Moline residents conducted a tag day Saturday with the ladies in charge on the streets early. Tags sold for various amounts, producing $700 in total. Several large local manufacturers bought $100 worth of tags. The event, despite poor weather, fell short of Rock Island totals by about $160. Contributions in Rock Island were more widespread with no single gift exceeding $5.

Route Is Designated Militia Company to Leave for Spring Field

Militia units under Colonel W T Channon of the 6th regiment are ordered to travel to the annual encampment at Springfield. The local company with Company F Moline and Company B Geneseo will depart Saturday night by Rock Island to Peoria and then move to Camp Lincoln on the Chicago and Alton line, arriving early Sunday. A week at the capital follows before returning by the same route.

Heavy rain Saturday caused floods washing out numerous bridges across the countryside. Travel in many localities is seriously hindered and officials warn of continuing hazards while repair crews assess damage and begin cleanup efforts.
