Washington June 7 congress failed to adjourn yesterday as conferees of the naval appropriation bill worked through the day. The Senate agreed to adjourn today while the House stayed in recess as they sought agreement on riverboat purchases and remaining appropriation items.
In Manila on January 7 Captain Dayte Crenshaw of the 24th Infantry with 40 men was led into an ambush near Taal by a guide. The captain and one private were wounded as the Thai forces scattered the group. Additional casualties include Captain Flint and two privates badly wounded east of Biscaybato in Bolacu province.
Dispatches describe Boer positions around Pretoria with a retreat in progress and Allied attempts to intercept Commandant General Botha. Reports mention divisions from Leuretiza Marines and a rear guard action while rail lines and supply paths near Lydenburg are targeted. Separate items note U S political chatter and baseball scores from Milwaukee to Chicago.

Indiana Democrats endorse Governor Kern with a unani mous platform at Indianapolis convention. Delegates 1427 present, Kern secures 519 votes on first ballot, Shively 202, party argues for unity, platform endorses Chicago and 16 to 1. Missouri Democrats nominate full ticket including Dockery for governor and Lee for lieutenant governor. Steunenberg forces win Idaho convention seat contest in Shoshone county amid Coeur d Alene unrest. Connecticut Democrats back Bryan for president and local reform slate. West Virginia Democrats nominate Holt for governor.
Simple funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o clock in the Church of the Pilgrims Brooklyn for Dr Richard Salter Storrs pastor emeritus. Rev J O Byington and Rev Dr Alvert J Lyman will conduct with no address. Burial follows at Greenwood Cemetery. He died Tuesday evening at Lis lomela Pierpont Street Brooklyn aged 87 after a gradual exhaustion of vital force.
Sioux City Iowa June 7 W C MeNamara of this city and Miss Mary McAllister of Dakota City Neb were married by Justice of the Peace Ferris at 4 am Tuesday Their courtship was sensational and faced interference from parents. The bride and groom had eluded authorities amid habeas corpus proceedings initiated by the girl's father and later dismissed. The groom is president of the Eastern Nebraska and Gulf railways.
In Olney a constable named Conrad A Peterson enforcing a writ of execution shot and killed John Scholz after Scholz set two Great Dane dogs on him and struck Peterson with a lead pipe. Scholz died minutes later in his Lincoln Avenue saloon. Peterson and witness Oliver Viciously Attacked survived.
A wind and storm damaged Faulkner Kansas seven miles northeast early today. The village was nearly demolished with many farmhouses unroofed or blown off foundations and crops heavily damaged. No injuries reported. Separately a fire destroyed Virginia Minnesota, cutting telegraph communications.
The state health department was notified today of several new plague cases in San Francisco. In Louisville on June 7 Taylor announced he is not a candidate for governor.
A Columbus celebration honoring Admiral Dewey featured a parade reviewed by the admiral at the state capitol. Over 2,000 men participated in the event. In Milwaukee, the General Federation of Women's Clubs debated reorganizing at today’s morning session and the vote by states rejected reorganization.
