Des Moines reports show W S Kenyon with about 37 000 votes and Lafayet Young 18 900 statewide from 620 precincts. In Polk County Kenyon leads by 3445 with total 6955 votes, while Holden and Clarke contest the Republican nomination as Dunn trails Hamilton for the Democratic gubernatorial nod.
Washington June 4 The house judiciary committee decided to undertake a preliminary investigation of the beef trust. It will not call heavily interested men or pursue a sensational view of packing houses. The money trust inquiry will be taken up in New York Thursday by the banking and currency committee.
Havana June 4 there is no question but that Congress at a special session this afternoon will pass a bill authorizing the president to suspend constitutional guarantees but there is doubt whether the decree will apply to the whole island or only Oriente province Senator Nixon of Nevada is dangerously ill of meningitis in Washington June 4

The Duke of Connaught and Duchess begin a Canada tour on May 20 from Ottawa. They travel the St Lawrence to Montreal and Quebec for two weeks, then move west to Winnipeg to open the exhibition on July 7. They will visit Sault Ste Marie Port Arthur Saskatoon Prince Albert Edmonton Calgary and return to Toronto for late July exhibitions.

A Sunday evening clash in Watertown left John Swanson unconscious after minister J M Osborne says Swanson drew a knife. The pastor grabbed a flower pot and struck Swanson above the right eye to quell the attack. Baptisms occurred along the river earlier, with six people baptized including Maud Swanson and Mrs. John McGildary, daughters of Swanson. Swanson reportedly threatened to kill the minister during the service.
San Francisco reports the California supreme court en banc disbarred Abraham Ruef from law practice effective immediately. The action followed a bar association committee's recommendation and was based solely on a certified bribery conviction, with no oral argument presented.
In Los Angeles on June 4 Samuel Gompers denied sending money to Clarence Darrow or anyone tied to bribery claims involving George Lockwood. Bert Franklin testified Darrow received the funds and discussed prison cell details as part of the Darrow trial proceedings. Gompers asserted documentary proof contradicts Franklin and denied any dealings with him.
