Carey A. Manker, 65, who fled Pearl Michigan after embezzling 45000 from the Bank of Pearl in 1908, surrendered in a waterfront lodging house in San Francisco. He gave police a full confession, saying he wrecked the bank and escaped, and had been hunted for years. He arrived from Portland a week before and sought work as a waiter while subsisting on free lunches. The Pearl mayor confirmed Manker left town with the bank’s accounts short. No word has reached his family.
