Danville Illinois faced a violent riot Saturday night with two killed and twenty-two wounded. Troops arrived from Springfield to guard the town as a mob lynched and burned John D Metcalf after an altercation during an attempt to lynch James Wilson. Gatterman was shot and died as Metcalf was captured and hanged by the mob.
