Houston July 25. A large fire at the Humble oil field has claimed twelve lives, all of them Black workers. Ten bodies were recovered today as total losses rise to about 875000 dollars in property damage. The Texas company has not released exact loss figures or insurance details.
Albany July 25 Gov Higgins commuted Emil Totterman sentence for execution August 1 to life imprisonment Totterman had stabbed Sarah Martin in a New York lodging house He was a sailor on the Oregon and had won bravery medals Admiral Clark and others interceded for him during the Spanish war.
Chief of Police Francis O Neill handed his resignation to Mayor Dunne and asked it take effect at once. He delivered the letter after returning from Wheat at 1 o clock, and Dunne said he would relieve him of duty as soon as practicable.
After a Roosevelt Carter conference the Hawaii governor will not resign and plans to return to Hawaii to continue in office. The president assured full support and sympathy from the national administration. Also notes a hurricane in South Sydney and a high mackerel yield at Heston wharf with 45 vessels landing 1,912,000.
Milwaukee July 25 The appraiser of the assets of the estate of former banker Frank G Bigelow filed a supplementary report showing additional assets totaling about 1 million in stocks bonds life insurance mortgages and more The prior report listed 285 000 and the total now stands near 449 000 Liabilities are stated close to 5 million.
A dynamite explosion at the Bankhead mine in Banf Northwestern Territory on July 25 killed three miners and injured several others, while workers were present.

Harry Smith of Sabula drowned yesterday evening when he fell from a launch between Savanna and Sabula. His companion, unaware of handling the craft, could not aid him. After the accident the boat's nose was turned to the bank and remained there overnight, the craft found Sunday morning.
