Jacobs Creek Pa July 18 Nine persons were drowned in Barren Run on the farm of John Raymond near here last night The dead include Mrs John Raymond her ex children mother and brother During a heavy storm Raymond went from the house to a barn near the ravine in the run He did not return and two hours later his wife and children and other family members went to search for him A wall of water swept them away Raymond escaped safe in the barn
Chicago July 18 detectives search for John Henning after grand jury failure to act in a suit over alleged plot to damage Clarence Funk's reputation. Mrs Henning reportedly denied making damaging statements to masseuse Eulalia Keerney.
A July announcement lists Emerson Brantingham and Emerson subsidiaries joining under a $50 million capitalization. The merger unites 10 non competing firms including Emerson Carriage, Emerson Newton Implement, Plow, and Gas Traction with operations in Minneapolis Kansas City Chicago and Dallas. S. Brantingham to be president. Application filed in Springfield to raise capital from $6.01 million to $50 million.

Paul Rathmann of St Louis, a wealthy brewer, jumped overboard from the Kaiser Wilhelm II while en route from Cherbourg to New York. Three hours after leaving Cherbourg he vanished after climbing the rail in pajamas while his wife slept. Lifeboats and the ship’s searchlight failed to locate him after two hours.
Detroit July 18 The body of Nat Wilson a 22 year old vaudeville actor was found on Belle Isle and ruled a suicide. His widow Pauline Palmer 18 was told she said she would continue in her Colonia play and perform she had hoped for reconciliation after their separation.
Jewelry valued at $25,000 was stolen today on a crowded downtown street from Patrick McDermott who carried a sample case for Jacob Levin. Police linked the case to a prior disappearance of $37,000 in jewelry, suggesting the same carrier was involved.
Leipsic July 18 Lieutenant Preusser, a German aviator, was killed today when his plane overturned during a landing. The airman was crushed beneath the engine. The incident occurred as the craft went down in the airfield.
Washington July 18 A Senate committee hearing heard that the Democratic campaign fund totaled about one million dollars during Parker's 1904 presidential run. W F Sheehan of New York testified that August Belmont and Thomas F Ryan were major contributors and that the committee vowed no money from trusts. He believed no such contributions occurred.
Chicago July 18. A five member progressive committee was named to seek views from Governor Deneen and other Republican nominees on Taft and Roosevelt candidacies. The panel will reveal their findings July 23. Senator Dixon telegrams urged a Roosevelt friendly Illinois ticket. Norris proposes another primary to test Roosevelt Taft lines, with electors on both sides. Roosevelt calls the progressive platform a contract with the people. Roosevelt cancels the planned West trip, favoring New York area. Otto Xander, republican elector nominee, would not vote Taft, favoring La Follette or other progressives.
San Quentin Cal July 18 After a week of solitary confinement J B Mc Namars one of the convicted dynamiters was placed back in the dungeon the warden said today he has conformed to prison discipline and is kept in confinement.
The house judiciary subcommittee reviewed four additional charges against United States District Judge Cornelius H. Hanford. Allegations include allowing excessive fees to receivers and attorneys in fisheries receivership, attempting to sell a salmon can invention during ongoing litigation, appointing professional receivers with high fees in Seattle bankruptcy cases, and denying justice to laborer Eli Melovich after a machinery accident.

Victoria B C July 18 Details of the seizure of the American gasoline launch Bonita of Seattle by the fisheries protection cruiser Newington were made public today. The Bonita with a crew of men was captured Tuesday after a running fight in which a score or more rifle shots were fired at the American by the cruiser. No one was hurt. The American boat however was not captured until it had been rammed and capsized and the crew made helpless by being thrown into the water. The Newington sighted the Americans trolling within the three mile limit. Deny Death Report
William B. Hale, 16 year assistant cashier at the Bank of Geneva, hanged himself Monday. He was found short about 14500 dollars in his accounts. He drew 65 dollars a month as janitor of the banking room and had near total charge of the business. He owned an automobile and lived well with his wife, though officers say he had income from investments.
Washington July 18 senate and house conferees reached a complete agreement on an amended rivers and harbors bill carrying a total 33 million dollars. The measure includes 6 million for Mississippi levees and allocations for Los Angeles outer harbor Chicago outer harbor and other river projects with reductions in several items. The conference report was adopted after adjustments to several senate amendments.
Cleveland July 18 Armed with an order against gambling aboard lake steamers Captain Phillips of the Eastland and F F Mulholland Eastland Navigation manager were arrested today and pleaded guilty before federal officials. Each was held to the federal grand jury in 1000 bail as the district attorney seeks to stamp out slot machines on steamers.
Libby and Shapiro owners of the automobile that carried Rosenthal's killers claim to have information for the district attorney linking the police system to the plot. Jack Rose a gambler hired the car by telephone. he was questioned and later arrested at police headquarters. Deputy Commissioner Dougherty said he will soon have the murderers in custody and suspects Lieutenant Becker may be ignorant of the crime.

Nathan Swartz, accused of killing Julia Conners, was found dead by gas inhalation in a Chrystie Street tenement. A pencil note on a collar stated I am guilty and insane and a letter to his mother confessed guilt. Philip Swartz identified the body. the father had earlier told police his son admitted the crime.
