Packers Concede Point to Shippers in West Meet

Chicago July. Five stock exchanges from the West and packers conferred and won a key victory, eliminating the post mortem exam requirement for all cattle from shipper receipts. The agreement covers only dairy cows and common canning cows, affecting the majority of stockyard receipts. In Jackson Michigan on July 6 Senator Tillman challenged Senator Dolliver to a duel over remarks on the race question. Boise July 6 A beginning of the end of the Haywood trial was reached yesterday as defense counsel announced that except for a few witnesses their case in direction is before the jury. Charles H Moyer will be sworn Monday as witness followed by William D Haywood Judge Fremont Wood to set jury instructions and limit arguments to evidence. Rebuttal evidence may begin Tuesday or Wednesday with cross examination of Moyer and Haywood. The five witnesses yesterday supported earlier testimony about Cripple Creek disturbances and militia aims. Orchard was discredited and Barnes denied planning any criminal expedition with Orchard.

Chester B Runyan paid teller at Windsor Trust charged with stealing 5000 dollars. Mrs Laura Carter, who tipped police to Runyan, accused of receiving stolen property. Both waived examination, held for grand jury. bail denied. Runyan arrested with 96900 missing. bracelet and ring valued at 1090 recovered from Carter. Detective raid traced Runyan to Carter’s flat at 619 West 144th Street. confrontation ensued and he surrendered with revolver. Carter and servant Mary Duncan jailed.

Poisoning at Picnic Hits Forty Near Buda

Forty people were seriously poisoned and some may die after eating tainted meat at a Sunday school picnic near Buda. Many were too ill to travel to town and were cared for at nearby farm houses. Among the victims are Arthur Foster, superintendent, and P W Mason, editor of the local paper.

Sleep Beside Big Guns At Presidio Drills

Two thousand National Guardsmen and regular Army personnel spent the night near the big guns along San Francisco bay as they prepare for 15 days of joint maneuvers. The state militia will drill with regulars in handling heavy artillery at the Presidio forts.
