Freeport, July 1. Mrs. William Bailey, wife of a Brooklyn manufacturer, was shot to death in Dr Edward Carmans home office during her first visit. Carman and detectives describe a broken window pane and a pistol thrust through the opening. investigators probe a possible jealous rival behind the crime.
Loyalist Albanian government forces loyal to Prince William were routed by insurgent Fezzullmen tribesmen at Malenth north of Durazzo on Sunday, with news suppressed until today.

Leaders aim to pass a trade commission bill amend the omnibus trust bill and railroad securities bill before Sept. 1 and avert a lengthy debate. A separate House exchange over mileage led to sharp exchanges between Candler of Mississippi and Morrison of Indiana.
Workers in Wisconsin prison earned twenty thousand dollars for overtime in the year ending June 30, 1914. Payments were made by contractors under the Wisconsin contract system and all funds were credited to each convict’s individual account.

Vienna reports the conspiracy against Archduke Ferdinand and the duchess of Hohenberg was so well planned that escape seemed impossible. Two clockwork bombs were found beneath a luncheon table, another in a chimney near Sarajevo, and a woman was found with seven bombs. Prinzip, the alleged assassin, is the proprietors’ son in Sarajevo and could face death.
Rabbi Moses J. Gries of Cleveland urged the Central Conference of American Rabbis to create a commission to study unaffiliated Jews and intermarriage. He called for organized religious work in universities and colleges to offer Jewish education to all American children and to address marriage, divorce, and burial practices for those drifting to new cults.
Archibald Thomas, a leper confined at the Penikes Island colony near New Fedford Massachusetts, will receive a navy department license as an amateur wireless operator. He has studied wire telegraphy with poor equipment during five years in the colony. St Louis Missouri voters approved a new city charter by 43 839 to 44 158 in a closely watched referendum. The reform plan aims to overhaul municipal administration within sixty days amid opposition from some real estate interests and labor leaders. No disturbances were reported. Pueblo Colorado also adopted a commission form of government by a wide margin 5 519 to 1 679.
Red Bluff Calif July 1 eruption near Lassen Peak broke into a fresh burst less than 24 hours after a quiescent period. The eruption began early today and sent blackened steam a mile into the sky with no flames observed. Officials reported near continuous activity since May 30, with Macomber noting the dramatic plume.
