Mrs Catharine Shellabarger Black widow of Captain John Black of Springfield Illinois Civil War veteran and pioneer paper millman has died in Chicago at 67. Born in Decatur she was sister of the late David Shellabarger and cousin of Mrs Abraham Lincoln. Survived by daughter Katherine Watson Black and two sons John S. and Clare nce F. Black. Burial in Springfield. Katrina Died in Westville Poland born lived in Warsaw 15 years.
Chicago Jan 23 A strike of 15 4 carpenters is set for April 3 after the Carpenter Contractors association refused a five cent raise from 65 cents an hour. Cleveland Jan 23 Following a conference between eastern Ohio coal operators and federation conciliators Keefe and Davies, adjournment until Monday yielded no definite results in the 15 000 miner strike.
Harry Thaw is due to arrive from Manchester for the Tombs case with his mother in New York. The conspiracy trial is expected to resume next Friday as Thaw is transferred to New York officials after a brief handshake packed journey from Concord. New Brunswick New Jersey January 23 Thirty two deputy sheriffs employed by a private detective agency guarding the American Agricultural Chemical company fertilizer plant at Roosevelt were arraigned on murder charges. They allegedly all participated in the Roosevelt shooting last Tuesday that wounded 19 and killed two. Grand jurors were summoned to consider the charges.
Miss Muriel Wilson acts as a nurse to wounded Allied soldiers in the home of her brother in law Lieutenant Colonel George Lindsay Holford equerry to the king. Holford’s residence has been converted into a hospital for this purpose.
Rome Jan 23 Pope Benedict in a private and public allocution stressed the Holy See s neutrality in World War I.
