Chicago reports a dramatic shooting at the federal building as Mrs. Thomas Metcalf fired at attorney Samuel R. Hamill in a case tied to banker John R. Walsh. The incident follows a Utah case where Mrs. Annie M. Bradley killed former Senator Arthur Brown. Metcalf, once linked to Terre Haute workers, pursued Hamill from Denver to New York and Chicago, firing three shots in the corridor. Noted Sculptor J P Melcher Dies in Detroit
Judas T. Melcher a noted sculptor aged 78 is dead in Detroit. He was an intimate friend of Karl Schurz and among the first Germans expatriated after the 1848 revolutionary troubles. He located in Detroit early and was well known in German American circles. Also reported two centenarians passing William Kinghorn 102 and Owen Hoff 100 both in Rockford and prominent in state politics respectively.
