In Lawrence mass, February 29, textile mills report higher worker numbers despite an eight week strike. Concessions reportedly include a wage advance over the prior rate for a 56 hour week. London braces for a possible national coal strike as 730,000 miners walk out.
Dalhart Texas reports at least seven fatalities from a storm sweeping the Texas panhandle and eastern New Mexico. Victims, many on the range, died while tending cattle during blizzard conditions that hit Sunday.
The Roosevelts plans include accepting one invitation to speak before the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers on Memorial Day at Gettysburg. A Roosevelt committee will organize in Washington next week to oversee the campaign with figures like Meilli McCormick and Gif ford Pinchot involved. Delegates to the Republican convention from Missouri were instructed for Roosevelt, while Taft supporters plan delegate selection later.
Washington February twenty ninth by a two to one vote the cabinet officers enforcing the pure food law ruled saccharine cannot be used in prepared foods. Secretaries Wilson and Nagel approved the decision with MacVeagh dissenting a month grace is set for manufacturers to remove saccharine. The ruling ends a four year dispute.

Though rumored engaged to heiresses in the past he now spends much time in a New York theatre box near Miss Claire and maintains a Gold Coast suite at Claverling Hall with an estimated annual spending money of 50 000 dollars.
Philadelphia February 29 A Magistrate MacFarland ruling states a wife has a perfect right to rifle her husband pockets and take his last cent with no redress for the husband.
Cincinnati reports Federal District Attorney McPherson filed twelve suits in Columbus and three in Cincinnati for neglecting to file 1910 net income returns, with ten thousand dollars fine asked in each case. Also notes Major A W Butt's leave of absence and a Ridgeway blaze saved by snow.
Satar-ed-Dowleh, brother of the deposed shah, leads rebel troops in sacking 25 towns and villages near Ha madan. Famine follows as about 40,000 people starve and a Red Cross appeal for assistance is planned.
The Anwandter Brothers brewery, the continent's largest, burned today in Valdivia Chile with an estimated loss of five million dollars. Fire officials reported extensive damage across the facility and nearby structures. No injuries were immediately confirmed.
Springfield Ill Feb 29 A Collinsville delegate W C Pierce urged removing reference to God and the after world from UMW burial service. He argued modern science makes such beliefs doubtful. His motion drew indignation and failed for want of a second.
Secretary of State P C Knox departed Panama for Colon to inspect the canal and plan frequent stops. Port Limon Costa Rica will be the next stop as he continues the trip to capitals of the region.
An overnight revolts killed 36 inmates at Monterey Mexico with the warden among the dead. In El Paso officials say US will not block legitimate exports into Juarez. Separately, clashes in Santo Domingo left 12 rebels dead and government casualties. In Peking mutiny of Yuan troops burned houses and looted shops as loyal forces restore order. The American legation faced danger from a shell near its grounds.
Secretary Knox addressed Central America and the Caribbean during a visit with Panama's acting president Rodolfo Chiari. He outlined U S policy toward Latin America, stressing no craving for sovereignty or territory while urging closer relations, peace, and prosperity across the republics.
Fort Worth Texas February 29 jury in the murder case of John Sneed against Capt A G Boyce discharges seven for acquittal five for conviction after nearly five days out. Sneed a wealthy Amarillo banker believed Boyce aided his son Al Boyce in abducting Mrs Sneed and shot Capt Boyce.
George Carpentier the French welterweight champion knocked out Jim Sullivan the English boxer and former middleweight world champion in the second round in Monte Carlo on a purse of eight thousand dollars. The report also notes a coroner inquiry into Lena Williams death after a facial treatment, Lyons’ case dismissal, and the Kimmel insurance mystery arguments opening in St Louis.
Washington February 29 reports Hughes introduced a bill to create an industrial relations commission to investigate labor problems including the Lawrence Massachusetts troubles. The immigration committee favors barring illiterate immigrants. Wickersham supports keeping W H Lewis, a Black assistant, in the American Bar Association amid a disputed election. The bar association will review the case in Milwaukee next August.
Washington February 29 Dr Wiley chief chemist of the department of agriculture denied any intention to resign. He said reports of his resignation came from enemies who had attacked him recently in other ways.
Springfield Feb 29 The Illinois Central railroad notified the State board it will immediately restore its old ratings and rules for both interstate and intra state coal business in Illinois. The move comes after coal operators protested the new rates and the commission had ordered a return to the previous rates.
In San Francisco four bodies were found in a Richmond district house after a fatal blaze. The living victims had been murdered before the fire spread. Separate items note a Breen divorce case verdict, a man surviving 15 days sealed in a Nashville corn car, and two boys aged eight and nine jailed for attempting to derail an Illinois Central daylight train at Lake Fork in revenge for being ejected earlier.
Fourteen passengers were injured when a car on the Illinois Traction system derailed and rolled over near Beald, Jr. One man suffered a broken nose. others had cuts and bruises. The train included a motor car a Peoria sleeper and a Springfield sleeper. Seriously hurt were Fred Gordon of Champaign Urbana George Gordon of Urbana and A Kelly of Bloomington enclosing several minor injuries.
