Iowa City grand jury indicted E. D. Murphy a merchant and Civic league leader on charges of maliciously publishing that graft prevailed at City Hall and that council members profited from a jail contract. City Clerk George T. Reddick was named in the seven counts. Murphy pled innocence.
El Paso residents dismiss rumors of a battle near Juarez ten miles south with no city activity and quiet southern rail workers. The peace commission plans to deter rebels from entering Juarez while Washington faces conflicting army reports and no confirmation of fighting.
