High School Masquerade Tragedy in East Chicago
In Hammond Indiana on February 23 at a East Chicago high school masquerade 15 year old William Harris in a cowboy costume drew a revolver and shot his 15 year old classmate Avis Cox. Harris had flourished the gun several times earlier and claimed he did not know it was loaded. Cox died before the fainting girl dancers and a coroner's jury absolved Harris of blame.
