Boston Feb 23 The Massachusetts state board of trade adopts a resolution calling for treaty created neutral zones from North American ports to Britain Ireland and continental Europe where lawful commerce steamships and sailing vessels may pass without seizure or interruption A memorial prepared by the boards international arbitration committee is being sent to state boards chambers of commerce and other bodies in the US and abroad for presentation to Congress and foreign groups promising similar action by others.
Birmingham, Feb 23. Eighty three bodies of victims from the Virginia mine explosion have been taken out, with seven more sighted. After removal the rescue shifts to pumping the flooded shaft. Funeral services for many victims were held today as rescuers continued work.

Siloam Springs Ark Feb 23 Deputy U S Marshal John Henry Vier was shot and killed 16 miles west of town by Cherokee Charley Wickley who fled after the ambush while Vier and a posse investigated hog thieves at an Indian named Hogshooter’s home Wickley had been a suspect in a deputy marshal shooting over a year ago and is sought by authorities.
Nashville reports Rev. Joshua Godbey of the Southern Methodist church is dead at 92 after a 71 year ministry. He leaves five missionary sons and 110 grandchildren. Nearby, Topeka notes the house defeats a resolution to submit a constitutional amendment banning railroad passes for legislators.
Chicago February 23. President Harper of the University of Chicago passed a comfortable night and shows favorable condition. Hundreds of students prayed for his recovery as Dr Harper underwent a serious operation at Presbyterian Hospital. Surgeons reported the procedure a success though complete removal of diseased tissue proved impossible. Doctors express reasonable hope for recovery but prognosis remains cautious. Cancer of the posterior head of the colon was found and parts could not be removed. Resting easily, he will continue medical and X ray treatment for some time.
Crowds gathered in Moscow for solemn blessings of Grand Duke Sergius remains as troops stood guard. The funeral proceeded with royal presence in St. Andrew church, then he was placed in a vault. Similar services occurred in Tsarskoe Selo and St. Isaac’s Cathedral with no public intrusion or incidents.

Adolph Weber was convicted of first degree murder for killing his mother in Auburn on November 10, 1904, with authorities suspecting him in the deaths of his father sister and brother and the family fire. He fled before the blaze and later burned his bloodstained trousers, a key piece of evidence cited along with other circumstantial factors. Weber, a soldier, is believed sole heir to a valuable estate.
