Chicago on February 20 a Lincoln avenue street car derailed on the southwest stretch near Grace street. The rear of the car's track was torn from the rail and the coach struck a center iron pole, bending it outward and crashing through the corner of a two story brick saloon at 1461 Lincoln avenue. The wreck destroyed windows and frames in the car and building. no injuries were reported among the saloon patrons.
Arrangements for the annual scrap between freshmen and sophomores on February 22 include a tree-tying colors contest near Kirkwood Hall lasting 30 minutes. Boston reports six maimed sailors rescued after fourteen hours at sea from the Reston schooner S. C. Tyron which sank off the Delaware capes following an ice floe collision. One crewman, Henry Goncalves, 26, Cape Verde Islands native, died. Survivors Captain George B. Jones of Salisbury Maryland, Mate Bragg of Philadelphia, Seamen Travid Gillet, Lee Jackson, Julian Grant, and Henry Hardy were hospitalized with severe injuries including blindness threat to Bragg, possible finger loss for Jackson, ear loss for Grant, and eye injury to Hardy.
In Madison Illinois area across the river from St Louis three constables with a citizen posse and warrants for six pool room operators sparked a riot. Seven men were shot including Leon Harlan and Patrick McCambridge. two may die. Warrants targeted Whitfield Brooks Eugene Wall Thomas Riley and others. Local citizens had moved to close the pool room after a failed grand jury indictments.
In a tense confrontation a constable ordered the posse to halt inside a pool room. A volley shattered the scene, with shots fired from multiple directions. Dozens were wounded as the room fell under posse control and authorities vowed to reopen the pool hall once the unrest subsides.

Guantanamo Cuba February 20 The battleship Maine arriving under quarantine due to measles aboard also reports a case of smallpox isolated. The auxiliary cruiser Yankee has a case of scarlet fever or related illness, with sick aboard being monitored and separated.
Washington reports Rear Admiral Robley D. Evans warns of uprisings in China. The Navy orders 1500 Marines held in the Philippines for protection and a 600-man battalion to sail from San Francisco on the Buford in March under Maj. C A Doven. A Pennsylvania passenger train departing Chicago at midnight collided head on with a freight train near Hobart Indiana. The engineer, Charles Strayer, and three mail clerks were injured along with two passengers and a fireman. The incident occurred February 20 in Fort Wayne area.

An explosion at a Paris area dynamite plant kills several and injures many, while a separate Utah blast near Ogden destroys a dynamite car and injures several, mainly Greeks. In Paris the Comb factory gas explosion kills fourteen and wounds twenty.
Salovica Feb 20 A second clash occurred on Feb 18 between insurgent Albanians and Turkish troops. Albanian forces were defeated with about 500 killed or wounded. Turkish losses were heavy as well.
