Newark February 19 Nine high school pupils died when a Delaware, Lackawanna & Western train struck a trolley car at Clifton Avenue crossing. Eleven or more were injured, many fatally, as the crowded streetcar, used for morning school runs, was crushed. The accident sprouted at a long noted dangerous crossing with gates possibly down as the iron horse collided with the icy rails, throwing pupils under the engine and scattering bodies amid a gruesome scene.
