Miss Tracey Helander a 20 year old Aurora girl was murdered late last night. Her body was dragged to a cemetery while a bloody trail appeared in the snow. Suspect Pedroes, her former sweetheart, was arrested at his home two blocks away but police say no link is yet proven.
Miss Margaret Savile daughter of Bishop Quayle dies in hospital while en route to her bedside after a leg ailment. The bishop and Mrs Quayle were at her side as a fast train moved toward her.
Rep Kindel of Colorado announces he will move to impeach Postmaster General Burleson over parcel post mismanagement and freight rate plans. The Democrat cites incompetence and disagrees with Burleson on appointing a Democrat despite past clashes. He remains focused on parcel post reform and freight rate adjudication.
Forty to fifty masked men halted an Illinois Central passenger train near Love Station Mississippi, forcing sheriff E F Nichols to deliver Johnson McGuirk and Bill Phillips, accused in the shooting of wealthy mill owner J K Ingram. McGuirk was forced to leap from a trestle as the mob dispersed. Phillips was spared. Ingram remains hospitalized in Memphis in serious condition.
Albert I of Belgium, age 38 and successor to Leopold, fractured his left arm after being thrown from a horse while riding in the Seignies forest near the Waterloo battlefield. The accident occurred today in Brussels on February 17.

A Lincoln veterinarian discovered a boy billed as livestock in a Bertrand Nebraska to Burke South Dakota shipment. The car carried household goods with a hog valued at $10 to obtain a lower rate. The boy was found safe and in good condition. State Grain Dealers Meet reported in Ottawa Illinois with nearly a thousand delegates attending the Illinois Farmers and Grain Dealers Association convention.

Washington DC February 17 funeral services for Senator Augustus Octavius Bacon of Georgia were held in the senate chamber with no speeches or flowers save the senate’s tribute upon the coffin. The body rested in a marble room before the service and was escorted to Atlanta for state burial in Macon.

Pensacola, Feb 17 Lieutenant J McC Murray of the U S Navy aviation corps was killed when his aircraft plunged 800 feet into Pensacola Bay. The body was recovered about 100 yards from the crash site. Investigation found no cause for the accident. Also on Feb 17 Silas Christofferson flew 170 miles from Bakersfield to Los Angeles in 3 hours 42 minutes, completing a weeklong journey begun in San Francisco using a 100 hp biplane, proving a new feat.
The Queen City, the largest steamer on the Ohio River, struck a pier opposite Louisville causing panic among 110 passengers including many women and children. All aboard were saved, and the steamer remained stuck.

Four sailors died when the Italian bark Castanga struck an outer Cape Cod bar near Wellfleet Massachusetts on February 17. Seven unconscious crew were brought ashore by Cahoon Hollow life savers. Captain Garva and three sailors remained lashed to rigging to avoid being washed overboard.
Washington feb 17 President Wilson will veto the Burnett immigration bill if it passes Congress and includes a literacy test. The move surprised supporters who thought the president favored the measure. Thousands of foreign citizens campaign against the bill and Taft vetoed a similar bill last year. Senators on the committee say the literacy test would be kept despite the president's disapproval.
New Orleans reports Dr Ralph Hopkins says nine lepers discharged as cured at Louisiana leper colony.
