The Hotel Clarendon at Sea Breeze near Daytona burned down early yesterday, with ten adjoining cottages destroyed. All 215 guests inside were rescued as the blaze spread rapidly. The loss is reported at 215000 dollars. The night clerk alerted guests and led them to safety.

Manager W S Shafer says the hotel has not paid in years and will not renew. Rumors of a theater venture by Lee Shubert are unconfirmed. Permanent residents include Joseph F. Tucker Allan Conkling John G. Roche and others.
David S. Kidd of Toronto is to inherit a legacy for saving Mary Burn, daughter of an Australian millionaire, from a life of shame in Chicago. The father left 250000 to fund maintenance of a home for fallen women, after the daughter died in Florida while seeking extended life.
Springfield Feb 15. Senatorship remains a side issue as lawmakers push to start committee work immediately. Speaker Shurtleff has named four key house committees with two more expected, focusing on recounts, appropriations, judicial matters and contingencies. Chiperfield of Canton will chair the judiciary committee, Bush of Downers Grove heads railroads, and seven railroad bills from the governor’s drafts will be introduced. Recount committee to decide if the governor race warrants ballot opening. work begins tomorrow.
The blizzard slows the continent as a recount committee plans to complete its task by tomorrow. Witnesses may be summoned for Wednesday and the joint recount committee has until March 2 to file its report.

Cincinnati reports Mr and Mrs Taft arriving home in a driving rain from Panama and New Orleans. They are greeted at the station by C P Taft and go to his residence for a brief stay before leaving for Washington. Mrs Taft plans a New York visit while the president elect stays in the capital briefly. Mr Taft had no political conferences during the trip.
Washington dispatch reports Representative Rainey of Illinois says Taft and others dodge the issues of the Isthmus of Panama. He intends to deliver facts and not apologize, promising a final, decisive speech before the end of the current session. He accuses opponents of spreading buncombe and vows a confrontation on the floor.
Washington Feb 15 Three members of Congress who died during the first session were eulogized in a special house session yesterday. The dead were Senator William Pinkney Whyte of Maryland who died March 17 Representative William H Parker of South Dakota who died June 26 and Representative Abraham L Brick of Indiana who died April 7 last. Fifteen addresses were delivered. Representative Overstrost of Indiana presided.
The Interstate Commerce Commission has granted a permit for free transportation of the Liberty Bell and a Philadelphia police guard to the Alaska-Yukon Exposition in Seattle. It is probable the historic relic will travel to the far west this coming summer.
Muskogee Okla Feb 15 The bank of Oaktamah 16 miles south of here was robbed early today Bloodhounds have been placed upon the trail of the perpetrators.
An unknown vessel rammed the Belgian steamer Australia during a February storm in the Mediterranean about 100 miles from Gibraltar. Both ships foundered with 36 lives lost. Ten Australia crew were rescued by the Liberia and brought to Algiers.
