Washington moves to curb foreign use of passports for U S entry, aimed at excluding Japanese workers on the Pacific coast, hoping to ease labor tensions and aid talks with Roosevelt. Former Governor Frank W. Higgins dies at 10 p.m. after 24 hours of unconsciousness. Judge Gestlas plans civil cases this week before criminal docket starting Feb 25.
Rev Milo Gordon Cummings of Murphysborough and Davenport, known minister, was released after county attorney dropped arson charges for lack of evidence stemming from an Des Moines arrest aimed at defrauding an insurance firm. The dismissal ends the case and vindicates the clergyman.
Mathew Burke and Abraham Lander were held to the grand jury by Magistrate Elliott on a charge of stealing 1,500 pounds of railway iron. Burke’s bond was set at $100 and Lander at $500. Arrested in Davenport, they admitted hauling iron found in an alley to Davenport, claiming it was junk.
A memorial prayer service will be held this evening at United Presbyterian Church for Rev William Donaldson of Monmouth who died suddenly Sunday morning before he was to conduct services. The service replaces the regular weekly prayer meeting.
