Vienna reports former King Milan of Servia has died after banishment following a scandalous reign that included his divorce from Natalie. His son Alexander succeeded him, and Milan was said to intend returning to his former kingdom.
London officials report there is no foundation for the claim that Mrs Maybrick has been pardoned. The Home Office confirms no clemency action has occurred as of February 11.
A separator burst at Champney creamery in Lists Wisconsin today killing Edward Wirth and James Pyburn, fatally injuring William Butler and wounding others. Machinery was destroyed and injuries reported as minor for some workers.
Gen James M. Shaw, former commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, was found dead from apoplexy in his hotel room at the Riggs House in Washington. He had returned from a banquet at the Ebbitt House with good health, and was about 2 a.m. when death occurred. Born December 27, 141, in Lyme, N.Y., he served in the Thirty-seventh New York Volunteers, acted as a war department special agent, and served as consul at Manchester, England, until 1889. He was removed by President Cleveland for alleged partisanship.

It notes his later brevet as brigadier general and postwar public service. A westbound Chicago and Erie passenger train derailed near Wren Indiana after an engine axle fractured at high speed. Fireman Finney was killed instantly. Several trainmen and a number of immigrants sustained minor injuries.
Washington reports the president sent to the Senate nominations for H H Wilson of Delaware and Fitzhugh Lee of Virginia, both brigadier generals of volunteers, to become general officers in the Regular Army. The Senate confirmed Major General Nelson A Miles as lieutenant general and named Brigadier Generals B M Young Adan K Chaffee and Arthur Mack Arthur for major general posts.
When the Senate convened in Washington on February 11 a bill providing an additional district judge for the northern district of Illinois passed. The naval appropriation bill was taken up and passed and consideration of the subsidy bill was resumed.
London reports say 7,000 Boers under Louis Botha withdrew eastward after a Mayhem at Ermelo on Feb 6. General Smit-Dorrien repulsed a Boer attack at Orange Camp. Casualties included Spruit and Randemeyer, while British losses numbered 24 killed and 53 wounded. DeWet seen crossing toward the west as Caldvrnia falls to DeLisle.
East London Cape Colony Feb 11 reports a major engagement at Tabakshers mountain forty miles east of the railway. Major Crewe with a small column attacked Boers aided by 15-pounders and a pompom but the Boers outnumbered five to one. Crewe organized a rear guard and safely withdrew after heavy losses, with General Knox and DeWet commanding the Boers estimated at 12,500. Crewe's force was about 700.
A five story brick building at Twenty third street and Allegheny Valley railroad housing Armstrong Bros Cork factory and adjacent Totten-Hoge Iron and Steel foundry was destroyed. Loss estimated at 750000 with 700000 borne by Armstrongs and fully insured. Fire drew large crowds as 1600 workers were inside the cork factory. Firefighters used ladders and escapes to evacuate.
A Pennsylvania crossing incident near Ritehe Ohio killed Mrs Whitman and fatally injured her husband due to obstructed view. Separately Richard A Pick and Miss Burdelie Coleman wed in Chicago after eluding parents, elicit cross faith union. Minister Wu pledges not to criticize the U S government in a Genesee Society dispute. James J Hill plans a private yacht cruise with guests from New York to Bermuda via the Mediterranean.
George Carter, a colored man, was lynched by a mob of about 30 men in Paris Kentucky after overpowering the jailer and taking custody near the county jail. He had assaulted Mrs W. E. Bonnd, wife of a banker, three weeks earlier.
The Algonaia report states Jack Robinson son of a prominent family confessed to being the footpad who shot Fred Foster last Saturday night. Foster’s condition is grave as the sensational case unfolds with wide public interest and local officials pursuing charges.
In Manilla, Iowa, three men John Jackson Tol Stovall and Charles Moyes were arrested after authorities tracked a stolen United States express safe containing about 40000. The safe was unloaded from a Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul train in Sioux City and later carried by wagon to a country spot where it was opened. The case hinges on whether the men knew the box contained valuables.
Committees on the Philippines today authorized Senator Lodge to report the Spooner amendment as an amendment to the army appropriation bill. The measure concerns the government of the Philippine Islands and was introduced Friday.
W R Carey chairs the county board with Supervisors Olof Atkinson Charles George and H J Gripp and County Clerk H B Hubbard leaving for Joliet to attend the 14th annual convention of the State Association of County Supervisors County Clerks and County Commissioners Friends push Hubbard to run for treasurer of the association and promise to secure the office if he consents Henry has not given a definite answer yet.
Centralia reports H. W. Schmidt superintendent of the Milinoia Southern railway died at Sparta today. His son Harry died Saturday. Mrs. Schmidt is not expected to live. It is supposed the family was poisoned by eating corn beef.
John Buford Fost, 24, of this city, has secured a speaker for Memorial Day May 30. Hon. C. J. Day, city attorney of Greenfield, will deliver the address. Doyle praised as a promising orator of southern Indiana. Northwestern University glee mandolin and banjo clubs will give a concert at Harper’s theatre Feb 16 to raise funds for the senior class of 1901. Tickets 50 cents. reservations at Brewer Bros. jewelry. Christian Endeavor union meets at Edwards Congregational Davenport. Rev. George L. Cady of Town City speaks on Real Religion. Rev. H. W.
