Springfield reports a legislative move to form a joint committee to review the Stevenson recount petition against Governor Deneen. The panel will not recount ballots and reports are due March 2 as party leaders push to dismiss the contest amid a deadlock on the U S Senate ballot.
Wireless reports from Port Eads La indicate President-elect Taft and his party are about 300 miles off the Mississippi River passes and expected to arrive at South Pass at midnight.
Reports from Elgin on February 10 detail a clash between Dr. V. H. Podstata, Northern Hospital for the Insane superintendent, and Dr. Philip H. Hesse, a medical staff member. Rumors of a major reshuffle circulated after Hesse’s forced resignation, with conflict among hospital physicians noted.
Federal grand jury in Muskogee returned indictments against 26 corporate representatives for stealing timber from segregated lands in Oklahoma. Ohio physician Dr. J D O Brien presented four paresis patients in Massillon before the Union Medical Society showing a recently discovered serum said to cure the disease. He contends paresis is a serum disease and proposes testing his method on these subjects in a fall clinic demonstration.

Oliver, 56, a former Methodist minister and inventor of a writing machine, died in Chicago after selling his stake post World’s Fair. He also filed patents on a camera, acetylene gas generator, and a cotton picker, carrying a model at death. Nevada officials report failed anti Japanese agitation compromises. Reno editor cites Roosevelt discussing possible US Japan talks easing current complaints.
Des Moines reports the worst blizzard in 20 years with 10 below zero in Charles City and three foot drifts in Sioux City Fort Dodge and Marshalltown. In Washington yesterday the Senate debated canal types, with Kittredge urging a sea level design and bonds up to 500 million dollars, arguing a sea level route is cheaper than a lock canal. Department of Superintendents of the National Education Association will hold its annual meeting in Chicago February 24 and 25 with sessions at the Fine Arts Building. Kansas senate pushes drastic liquor prohibition measures, banning draggists permits clubs liquor sales. In Houston a mob lynched Roby Daskin for the murder of Rev W T Hudson. over 300 citizens participated quietly.
From Galveston Texas on Feb 10 the rumor of Port Limon Costa Rica being destroyed by a tidal wave cannot be confirmed. Officials say the source likely stems from service interruptions in Port Limon caused by slides.
