Eight coaches plunge through high trestle in Iowa wreck
A Chicago Milwaukee & St Paul train derailed after the trestle gave way near Melbourne Iowa. Eight coaches plunged 30 feet with nine coaches and two engines involved. Killed were conductor H M Marsh and brakeman C A Morres. Many injured rushed to Perry Marshalltown and Rhoades for treatment. The cause remains under investigation.

Louisville February 9 The long rain and sleet storm shows slight improvement in the southwest but no betterment from the Mississippi to the Atlantic coast. Lines are in but in better condition and trains move messages between cities where communications were cut. The storm moved north and east with effects felt today in North Carolina. No word from Atlanta for 14 hours. Chicago February 9 Former Federal District Judge Henry W Blodgett died today at his home in Waukesha aged 84.

Des Moines Iowa February 9 The Corn Belt Meat Produce association of Iowa decided to oppose railroads and packers by creating an independent packing house system. Funds are subscribed to build a plant to control beef handling in the state and arrange disposal of surplus in Chicago and other markets. Speeches by Governor Cummins and ex Governor Van Sant inspired the effort, the first state action to break the packers trust and strike at the railway pool.

Jealous husband shoots into crowd at Tri City hall
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Stromberg of Moline attended a dance at Tri City hall last evening. Stromberg argued when his wife danced with a man, was expelled from the hall, then fired two shots into the street crowd. No one injured. He was arrested this morning and charged with carrying concealed weapons and sentenced to 15 days in county jail.

Washington dispatch from Gen. Corbin describes a Feb 2 engagement at San Jose Samar where six artillery pieces were captured with no American casualties. Dynamite disaster at Osceola mine in Calumet causes multiple deaths
Ten thousand pounds of dynamite exploded at the Osceola mine causing at least six deaths and numerous injuries.
