A run away Northern Pacific freight train rolled down a steep grade west of Helena at midnight and crashed into a passenger train, wrecking both and causing a fire. Four killed, two feared burned, others injured. engine uncoupled to take water at Austin before the crash. Nearby Oregon wreck report lists four dead and four injured. Also note Swed ish American Republican league meeting in Cambridge on Feb 15 called by J A Horberg and O B Olson.
Early today a frame house at Curtis Bay Anne Arundel county was destroyed by fire. Eight people all colored perished in the blaze, with only one inmate escaping. The tragedy occurred in a dwelling housing multiple inmates.
Des Moines reports Thomas W. Lawson of Boston arrived for a talk with Governor Cummins on Iowa insurance probe. Notable figures F. S. Monnett N. B. Broward Fremont Older and several Boston journalists joined. Lawson claims results may allow later public statement. He proposes a reformist(proxy board for New York Life and Mutual. Cummins will decide after consulting Minnesota's Gov. Johnson.
Chicago Feb 6 The Chicago Title and Trust company was named receiver for the McReynolds Elevator company amid charges that officers fraudulently disposed of more than 500000 bushels of grain stored at the elevator.
Washington Feb 6 former Panama Canal chief engineer John F Wallace told the senate interoceanic canal committee that William Nelson Cromwell held a powerful, perhaps dangerous, influence over canal matters. Wallace noted Cromwell served as fiscal agent director of the Panama railroad and adviser to the president, while being counsel for multiple canal interests.
George H. Simmons pastor of First Baptist church and president of the People's Savings and Interstate Savings banks in Peoria was named manager of Yates campaign. He was found dead in bed with a cyanide cause suspected after an investigation by the state's attorney and congregation members. His death follows religious and political controversy. Simmons, 40, left a widow.
Washington reports on February 6 that Midshipmen George H. Melvin of Illinois and Richard T. DeSaussure of South Carolina were dismissed today by Secretary Bonaparte for hazing.

Louisville february 6 It was learned today that President Michael Donnelly of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters union left Louisville last night over the Big Four railroad his destination Chicago.
A temporary injunction barred Hanover Bank from further operations in Massachusetts after a savings bank inquiry. Foster Hooper, vice president, was arrested on charges of using the mails to advance a conspiracy to defraud.

McCaskrin for plaintiff and G. A. Shallberg for the city, with Harvey McKinley assisting.
