Slayer Given Up by Own Brother
Springfield Illinois February second. John Henry son of a wealthy Morgan county man and slayer of three persons was tried over by his brother Jesse to Sheriff Rogers of Morgan at the Henry home in Woods on and locked up in the county jail at Jacksonville. The arrest followed Henrys return to his home when he was forced to seek shelter from a binding storm Friday night. Henrys defense according to present plans will be temporary insanity. He is accused of murdering Charles Ezard who tried to act as peacemaker when Henry attempted to shoot his wife Everett Crain a constable and Crains three year old son. Henry says he first realized committing the crime when he read an account in a St Louis newspaper. He says he read the story three times before grasping its meaning and has no further knowledge of Tuesday nights events. The prisoner will be given a preliminary hearing and held to await action of the next grand jury.
