A vast prehistoric cave near Butte, Jefferson canyon, about 48 miles east, was explored to ten miles and 800 feet depth. J W Gilbert led the party that found gigantic skeletons and copper tools, with a cathedral like chamber and a natural pipe organ. Access requires a 400 foot descent. Further exploration is planned.
