Quebec Aug 30 a cantilever bridge span over the St Lawrence collapsed killing eighty workers, many Americans including Pennsylvanians. Canadian and U.S. crews and Phoenix Bridge Co. face investigation as rescue efforts continue and bodies recovered.
Secretary Wilson resumes duties after a western tour and reports forests on public and private lands are being cut aggressively. He warns that essential forest areas for American agriculture may vanish in years and contemplates pushing Congress for stronger protective laws. Alfonso at Yacht Races. Bilboa, Spain, Aug. 30.-King Alfonso arrived today to attend the regatta with American yachts expected to compete for Emperor William's cup at Kiel.
President I han of the Illinois Central arrived in Chicago and issued a statement denying reports of a rift with former President Fish. In St Petersburg on August 30 the court martial tried 18 accused of plotting against Emperor Nicholas. Three, Nikitenko Simasky alias Perkin and Naumoff, were found guilty of organizing the plot and sentenced to death by hanging. Four others were guilty of organizing a plot and received eight years’ imprisonment for three, four years’ penal servitude. Five were convicted of supporting a conspiracy and banished with civil rights loss. Six, including M Feodossieff and his wife, were acquitted. Evidence centers on a May 15 confession by a guard soldier and notes that the plan was embryonic, mainly gathering information on dignitaries and palace movements.
La Crosse Wisconsin August 30 The ministers union formed weeks earlier and aligned with the trades and labor assembly has been cast out by the local labor body for waging a crusade against saloons. Brewery workers argued the agitation harmed their union and the decision followed after a hearing.

A Hampton barn on Ole Holmberg's farm was struck by lightning and burned to the ground around 2:30 am. The loss is about 1500 dollars with two horses three cows a calf and 14 tons of hay destroyed. Neighbors saved two adjacent outbuildings while Mrs Holmberg, in poor health, suffered a shock but recovery is expected.

Mike Schreck suffered a sixth to seventh round stoppage as Al Kauffman dominated every round except the fifth. Referee Roche counted Schreck out after a body shot left him unable to continue. Fans had viewed Schreck as the favorite but he failed to match Kauffman’s aggression and accuracy.
