Arthur McDavitt of Auburn and Lyle Watkinks of Petersburg narrowly escaped serious burns during a Salem Chautauqua carnival in Springfield Illinois. They attempted an unsanctioned side show using gasoline and ignite a fire that engulfed their clothing until bystanders helped extinguish the flames. The crowd watched with breathless suspense as the blaze was controlled and cheers followed.
Minneapolis Aug 10 A three year old boy John Krisko was killed during target practice by Captain B P Walton of Company F Minnesota National Guard at Columbia Ridge. The boy wandered within range after being warned, a sheet from a bush drew the captain’s fire, and the child died fifty yards from the shooter.
