Springfield April 27 Governor Deneen signed the Wright bill item No 5 directing counties to buy and hold land for public tuberculosis sanitariums and let counties erect and run such institutions at public expense. It supplements the Glackin bill aiding municipal sanitariums with tax power. The measure broadens county control to combat consumption and includes Chicago’s county and city sanitarium options. The session fever grows as lawmakers plan for a possible May 29 adjournment.
Jackson and White counties held local option elections yesterday to close saloons. Jackson County backed prohibition by about 370 unofficial votes, White County by 1,489. Twenty-five Jackson saloons and two in White will close.

Kankakee Illinois April 27 Rev S V Williams pastor of the Christian Church here killed himself by taking carbolic acid while mentally deranged. Local authorities reported the death occurred last night and investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the act. Williams formerly led church missions and was well known in the community drawing concern from neighbors.
Nashville Tennessee April 27 judge overruled the motion for a trial in the Cooper murder case an appeal was taken to the Tennessee supreme court.
