Springfield April 24. The Illinois Democratic convention endorsed William J. Bryan with a unit rule, instructing delegates to vote for him at the Denver national convention and to use all honorable means to secure his nomination. Eight delegates and two electors at large were chosen, with a strong plank favoring maximum personal liberty within others rights. Judge Owen P. Thompson urged a stronger pledge, but the motion was defeated amid convention fatigue.

Death of Duc de Chauines in Paris Hotel Langham
