Washington reports from General Greely put San Francisco death toll at 277 with about 50 unidentified bodies buried in public sites. Coroner Walsh estimates total dead could reach 1,000 as relief qork continues and housing, water, and streetcar infrastructure are restored.
The boundary of the burnt district of San Francisco is about 26 miles around a roughly four square mile area. Comparisons: Chicago 1871 burned nearly four miles long with 17,450 buildings lost and 200 deaths. 70,000 homeless and about 190 million in property loss. Baltimore 1904 burned 140 acres, 73 blocks destroyed, insured 50 million with 32 million paid. Boston 1872 burned 65 acres 800 buildings destroyed, losses about 80 million with 52.7 million insured and 15 deaths.

Springfield April 24 Trautmann of St. Clair county introduced a bill for straight delegate conventions with delegates chosen by primaries. Galpin of Cook county in the senate submitted a bill for city office nominations in larger cities by delegate conventions with delegates chosen by primaries.
President Roosevelt travels with cabinet to Annapolis for the interment ceremony of John Paul Jones. Speeches by Roosevelt and Jusserand praise France and Jones, noting the body is brought by special train and honored by French and American officials.
Walter Wellman sailed from New York aboard the Kaiser Wilhelm II bound for Europe in preparation for his planned dirigible balloon voyage to reach the North Pole next June. A farewell reception was held by the New York Motor Joint.
