In Justice Prindiville's court a suspect arraigned for robbing a stranger tried to flee. Nebon fired. officers returned fire. Nebon was hit five times and will die. The police messenger and several bystanders were wounded. panic swept spectators as shots rang out.
In Kansas City federal court Stephen A. Waltmer and Joseph H. Kelly, president and secretary of the Waltmer Institute of Magnetic Healing of Nevada Missouri, pleaded guilty to using the mails to defraud. Sentence reserved as they sought mercy. the institute advertised to heal all diseases and conducted a large mail order operation halted by a fraud order from Washington.
Southbound International and Great Northern passenger train wrecked at Davenport sixteen miles north of San Antonio by alleged robbers who threw a switch. Engineer Monahan mortally injured, Fireman Hicks killed. Attorneys Goeth and two San Antonio railway clerks along with Miss M Horan of Killen bruised. Bloodhounds and officers pursue the suspects.
Chicago April 24 Phillips added 11 cents to the May corn speculative value in the first trading hour. Opening bids ran 46 to 17. He raised the price in eighth of a cent jumps to 48 creating a new high, but only 400000 bushels traded. At 48 he paused and the market slipped to 47 before steadily rebounding to 45.
London news reports a severe engagement near Fort Darwin Mashonaland between Charterland police and Chintsi natives led by outlaw Mapondara. In Kankakee Illinois on April 24 Frank Frogge a St. Anne attorney was arrested and taken to Newton County Indiana on charges he voted as a non resident including Italians in a contest over county seat location. Newton County officials say large sums offered for votes. Frogge previously posted bail and was rearrested after bondsmen complained. Legislation in Wisconsin includes a city franchise voter approval measure and flood relief funding while railway taxes may rise 144 percent and a May 11 Senate caucus date is set.

Cleveland April 24 The two day talks between United States Steel Corp and marine engineers ended abruptly with no settlement. Engineers raise wages about 15 percent, chief engineers on first class boats to 150 a month, second class to 100. Owners oppose recognition of the engineers and may not resume work. Tug firemen and linesmen also failed to win proposed 5 monthly rise, with talks ending without agreement.

Attorney W O Nicholas who last Friday shot and killed Owen Bradley, a noted race horse owner and trainer, was acquitted yesterday after a six hour manhunt across Lexington. A woman involved warned Nicholas by note, and Arbor Day events closed banks and many offices in Omaha. Mrs Day remains critically ill in Canton Ohio as of April 24.
