Missouri dispatches report a Springfield mob lynching of Horace Duncan and Jim Copeland, with Governor Folk promising state rewards for lynchers. Springfield sees troop patrols and a shifting public mood as a special grand jury is ordered to investigate the mob deaths and related acts.
St Paul court upholds indictments against the St Paul Dispatch Pioneer Press and Daily News for publishing detailed stories of the Williams hanging. The grand jury accused the papers of violating the law by printing details of the public execution on March 13.
Indianapolis April 16 formal detailed reply from anthracite operators to Mitchell's committee will be studied at a coal carrying companies meeting tomorrow with President Baer expected to preside. The reply will claim the last proposal was final and outline reasons. Mitchell and Wilson home from New York report satisfaction and say district board members will meet. A major issue is a proposed strike assessment on miners in states where the 1903 scale is in effect as 406000 idle. No treasury funds have been drawn to date. Mitchell expects a reply within days and contemplates interstate talks by state groups or joint Indianapolis conference.
In Des Moines and Hampton, Iowa, Ardent insurance man A E Evans from Waterloo attacked Obediah Smith and his wife near Hampton. Evans struck Smith, and Mrs Smith intervened, both victims left unconscious. Evans then killed himself in Hampton. In Springfield, the Illinois Bar Association announced its annual meeting will be held in Chicago on July 12.
Lisbon reports a second Portuguese naval mutiny aboard the battleship Vasco de Gama with gunfire and casualties. Vessels, including the warship Don Carlos, faced mutinous exchanges as 483 Don Carlos mutineers await sentencing. In Washington, a deposed alcohol bill clears the House as talks probe campaign contributions and bank lending limits.

Fred O Murray former county treasurer and port collector pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and receiving stolen property totaling 36 900 dollars. Indicted alongside him were Robert S Woodburn Byron D Gibson William B Jackson John O Neff and Postmaster Fred Greene in a case tied to county cemetery site purchase for an armory.
