Tax Dispute Over Douglass County Mortgages Heads to Court

In Springfield April 10 a federal judge refused to grant a permanent injunction blocking the Douglass county tax collector from attaching Hudson mortgages in the county for unpaid taxes. Hudson of New York city claims he pays New York personal taxes and should not have mortgages seized for Illinois taxes. The decision notes state courts should settle the matter, not federal.

Washington April 10 The senate committee on privileges and elections unseated Clark of Montana in a unanimous decision. The senate will vote on the Quay case April 24. Washington April 10 The ways and means committee voted eight to five to report the Porto Rican bill as passed by the senate without amendment and with more concurrence in senate amendments. Stick to Taylor Louisville Ky April 10 The Republican state central committee calls a state convention for May 17. If Republicans lose before the supreme court in the contest for state offices they will renominate Taylor for the November election.
