Allegiance of Aguinaldo Takes the Oath to U S

Secretary Root reports that Aguinaldo swore allegiance to the United States renouncing all rival Philippine governments. The oath binds him to bear true faith, avoid aiding enemies, and act as a loyal subject of the islands under U S authority. He remains a prisoner of MacArthur despite the oath, a move seen as aiding pacification efforts. Aggie still a prisoner.

New Departure in Island Control South of Visayas

The Philippine commission plans a departmental division severing all islands south of the Visayas due to conditions in the Sulu archipelago and Mindanao. A single general provincial law cannot apply in the southern islands because Moros would be barred from self-government unless they forego allegiance to the sultan and submit to the United States, amid diverse races and interests. A department governor will be appointed to negotiate with the sultan and serve as the commission's direct representative.

A San Juan dispatch quoted the Venezuelan consul in Porto Cabello saying war with the United States is impossible while President Castro remains in power. Electric Baltway Sold to Cincinnati duo forms Toledo Northern line

The Toledo and Bowling Green Electric railway was sold to Col. George B. Kerper and Col. John Kilgour of Cincinnati. The new Toledo Northern railway will consolidate lines linking Cincinnati to Toledo and Baltimore with a through electric route. The Neth Baltimore to Bowling Green connection is due to be completed by October.

In Trenton New Jersey on April 2 United States Steel Corp filed amended charter papers with the secretary of state increasing capital stock to 1 1 million. The filing fee totaled 220 000. A blaze destroyed the core and pattern department of Belle City Malleable Iron in Racine Wisconsin, with two roads blocked and limited access for firefighters.
