The 4 H Foods program expands with three new member manuals and a leader's guide completing the Young Chefs series started last fall. With ages 9 to 19, participants will explore meat planning budgeting and nutrition through varied activities while preserving cooking and eating as core parts of the project.
Lorraine Adams discusses the shift as 4-H Foods expands to remote Manitoba areas with limited supplies. Leaders are urged to adapt recipes, a community loan service offers films and models, and Home Economists will help new Food Project leaders utilize the manuals.
The agriculture office invites involvement with 4-H including members leaders and parents. Call to join an existing club or start a new one and get guidance from staff.
Reg van Drecht of Edmonton spent two weeks visiting his mother Mrs. Jean van Drecht and old friends in Roblin, Rivers, Churchbridge and Inglis. He traveled with Court Reyda and Spencer Newton to Winnipeg then Europe, to study languages and continue volleyball. In Roblin they also met relatives including the Cedric van Drechts and the Van Drecht family.
Mary Olson of Kamloops British Columbia renewed acquaintances in the Roblin area over the weekend. It was the first time in two decades she has seen Roblin and she noted a changed landscape. Mrs Stephie Luzney and a Dauphin friend left for Halifax last Thursday. Mrs Mike Menzul babysits in Winnipeg for a month as relatives holiday in Europe. Mike Menzul drove to Winnipeg to visit family including Allan Menzul and daughter Margaret.
The K of C Club 200 draw awarded fifty dollars each in June July and August. Winners include Deron Malinowski Mike Shenderevich Miron Kowalchuk Mike Kozmeniuk Lovelean Malinowski Ann Safronetz Nick Kosinski Andy Sebulski Boyd Solnes Cecelia Sebulski Mark Shenderech Jim Mizibrochy and Bob Wolfe-30.
The Swan River Club praised winners Mabel Kelso and Madeline Ireland for gold in shuffleboard on Swan River’s outdoor courts and Wilfred Beattie for silver in lawn darts and ballthrow. The note hopes winter brings more contact with neighboring clubs.
Mr. Ted Goodman of Swan River brought a potato grown in the shape of a turtle to the office. He suggested wrapping potatoes when planting to keep dirt from their eyes. The potato’s bumpy form likely hindered its vision of where it was growing.
Nominations are required for reeve and four councillors in the R M of Boulton and for three committeemen of the UVD Inglis. Incumbents listed include Reeve George Motoshoski and councillors for Wards 1 to 4. Hillsburg council also seeks nominations for reeve and four councillors with named incumbents.
A Roblin meeting discussed starting workouts Tuesday to gauge interest for the Northstars hockey club. If turnout remains low, the winter hockey program may not proceed. Players’ commitment is key to forming an effective executive and sustaining the club.
