Obituary of Duncan McIntyre Pioneer of Zorra District

Duncan McIntyre born Glasgow June 20 1879 emigrated to Russell Manitoba 1896 then homesteaded in Zorra district 1805. Survived by wife J Albright daughter one daughter, parents from Scotland, sister J A McIntyre, brothers John C Yorkton and Alex Virdes. Funeral Sept 20 at Robinson Masonic lodge with Rev Chisholm and Rev King. burial at Deleovery cemetery.

TOGO LOCALS OP Young of Kamsack visited town last week. freeman of Portage La Prairie arrived to attend to local interests. Dr A J Leach returned from the East as Mrs Leach plans fall housecleaning. An accident injured Thomas Simpson, chief engineer, who was later hospitalized but recovering. Sunday Sept 28 marked the village's 20th anniversary since 1908 when lots were sold to Geo Craig and J H Abercrombie, and a festival honored the pioneer era.

Harvest dance planned in aid of Community Hall

In Deepdale the district hosts a harvest dance Friday to benefit the Community Hall. Warily, local notes report CN R gravelling and steam shovel work have ceased. Threshing nears completion but rain delays finish. Several residents travel for dental and medical care. Two Montreal men allegedly stole silk items after seeking shelter with Mrs Fletcher, prompting a police inquiry.

Merridale notes on visits, rats, and harvest services

Merridale R Martin recently returned from the East after visiting relatives. A new variety of house rat was reported in the district with A J Mc Cauley trapping a black and white rodent. Harvest festival services were held on Sunday September 16 in Merridale and Riverview fields with strong congregations and a student missionary address by Mr Hamilton. The Merridale community was decoratively adorned and MG Prusky endorsed the proverb about the ox that treads out the grain.

Births And Fair At Grand Narrows Highlight Sept

Grand Narrows marks a birth of a son to Mr and Mrs Tom Pixon on Sept 23. The Boys and Girls Club fourth annual fair on Sept 29 drew over four hundred entries despite threshing and harvest. Three judges from extension and local clergy praised the exhibits while urging parental support. Prize winners listed across livestock, gardening, canning, cookery, and crafts reflect strong club activity and community pride.
