Roblin Council Passes By-Laws Including Local Improvement District Additions

The September 1 1969 Roblin council meeting approved By-Law 689 adding parcels to Local Improvement District No 1 and By-Law 690 setting a November 13 1969 tax sale date. By-Law 691 provides advisory planning services, and permits for water and sewer work were authorized along with several assessments and a grant to the Rowlin Parkland Festival. Building permits were issued and the town agreed to rent Memorial Hall dishes.

Storm Strikes Roblin Region Causes Damage and Casualty

A severe storm over Roblin brought heavy moisture over two days, with thunder and lightning Sunday and Monday. A snow and rain storm followed Monday morning ending the wet spell. A cow was killed by lightning at the Harold Lowe farm Sunday morning.

Municipal Nomination Day Set for October 13 in Roblin Region

Nomination day for Roblin Town Shell River Municipality of Hillsboro is Wednesday October 13 1969 with council seats and reeve terms expiring. In Roblin two council seats at issue for Nash and Kostick. Hillsboro Ward 3 and Ward 4 nominate for Mohr Panasiuk. Shell River Ward 2 and 4 vacancies and Reeve position to be filled with possible election October 22.

Travelling Clinic At Roblin Draws Large Local Participation

The Sanatorium Board of Manitoba operated a travelling clinic in Roblin on August 18 to 21. A total of 1 359 received Chest X Rays 1 239 took Pulmonary Function Tests and 1 607 Blood Tests for Diabetes. Local ladies assisted with registration and were thanked for enabling the high turnout.

Two Local Men Bag Elk In Special Duck Mountain Season

Wilf Bouvier and Wilf Gardner bagged elk during the Duck Mountain Special Elk season on September 15. Bouvier’s six point elk dressed 566 pounds and Gardner’s five point bull dressed 398 pounds. The game was processed at Roblin Meat Processing Plant by Fred Nabe and Albert Nabe.

Roblin Collegiate elects 1969 70 student council

Roblin Collegiate held elections on September 19 to form the 1969 70 student council. President Doug Lyon and Vice President Shirley McLaren were chosen along with Melinda Turner as social convenor Allen Beweyk as sports rep Patricia Bonare as public relations officer and others pending.

Local Chamber Meeting Opens After Summer Recess

After a summer recess the local Chamber of Commerce resumes with a Tuesday 8 30 p m session in the New Intermediate School Multi Purpose Room. Guest speaker Victor N Maxon field representative for the Canada Pension Plan will discuss Retirement Pensions Survivor Benefits and Disability Benefits. He will also be available Wednesday October 1 for those who miss the meeting. Open invitation extended for all to attend and assist Mr Maxon.

Michael P. Yakimishyn, formerly Valley School Division assistant superintendent, is appointed Assistant Director of Research and Planning for the Department of Youth and Education. He holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Education from Alberta. Centennial Regional Meeting Planned in Roblin

A planning meeting for the 1970 Centennial series will be held in Roblin at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday September 27 with Mayors Reeves government officials Centennial chairmen and other guests. Local Hockey Club Forms Senior Team in Roblin

About twenty five players and supporters met on September 19 to form a Roblin Senior Hockey Team. An executive was elected with Vern Andres as President and Geo Wagner as Playing Coach. Plans cover new uniforms and equipment. The group cites Roblin’s nucleus of good players and community contributors and urges public support for hockey.
